Are you sure you want to risk surgery? Has everything been explained to you?

From all the literature I've read, carpal tunnel surgery *might* give you relief for a few weeks at most. Then it comes back. It's difficult to find a general consensus about how to treat RSI problems, but everyone I've talked to and all the books I read stress only having surgery as a last resort. (read: you are immobile)

I'd be a bit scared that your doctor is offering you a choice of how he does the procedures. You are not the expert. He should use whatever method has the best chance of success. Perhaps you should get a second opinion from another doctor. I hear Dr. Bickel @ sfhand.com is an excellent hand surgeon.

It took me a long time to realize that western medicine (cut 'em open and then give pills) does not work well for our diseases. I had to learn to embrace the touchy-feely style of treatment. Thankfully, we are near Berkeley ;)

If surgery worked, we wouldn't have this group ;)

Eek! I just went and read your other post. After the disastrous surgeries you've already had, I wouldn't let anyone near you with a scalpel!!!

I suggest you get a new primary doctor. Someone who isn't so slash-happy. There is a doc in Berkeley (group help me out here!) who specializes in TOS and has many, many raves in our little book. I can't remember his name but you can call our meetup hotline and ask Nancy. He's the guy you supposedly shouldn't let give you shots in the neck ;D Other than that, they say he is fantastic.
